About Nike Free Metcon 5
Nike Free Metcon 5
The Free Metcon 5 is the crossover of two opposing ideas from the same brand. The Free line is about a sole that bends fully with the foot; the Metcon line is about a heel that must not compress during heavy lifting. This model layers them: flexible at the front, firm at the back, for anyone who jumps, sprints, and lifts in a single workout.
The sole shows the dividing line. In the forefoot are the deep flex grooves of the Free family, so the sole folds like an accordion on push-off. Towards the rear this changes into a flat, solid block that keeps the foot stable. On the side there is a reinforced panel that takes rope-climb abrasion and provides lateral support, and the upper is a thin mesh with a tight lacing pattern.
The positioning is clear: this is the shoe for workouts that involve a lot of movement, while the heaviest lifting stays with the regular Metcon model. Those who mainly lift should look at the Nike Metcon 9; those who want the flexible sole in its purest form should go to the Nike Free.
The complete overview of the training line is on the Nike Free Metcon page, where previous generations can also be found.
