About Nike Calm Slide
Nike Calm Slide
The Calm Slide is what happens when a brand decides a slide can be quiet. Where the sports slide has for decades been a billboard, with logos, stripes and prints all over the strap, Nike removed all of that with this model: one molded piece of foam, a smooth strap across the instep, and a swoosh that isn’t applied as a contrasting color but is recessed into the material.
The simplicity is carried through to the sole. The whole slide consists of one piece, with a slightly raised rim around the footbed that keeps the foot in place and a finely ribbed sole sidewall that breaks the silhouette. There are no seams, no labels and no buckles; the model has no part that can come loose.
The timing explains its rise. The Calm appeared in the years when recovery shoes and foam models took over the market, and it competes directly with the chunky slides other brands made on a similar last. For those who prefer the foot fully enclosed, Nike also released a closed variant as Nike Calm Mule; the complete line is on the Nike Calm page.
The broader corner of the market is now well stocked. The Nike ReactX Rejuven8 serves the same need in closed form, and with the Adidas slides you can see how the classic sports slide competes with the new generation of foam models.
