About Nike Book 1
Nike Book 1
The Book 1 is Devin Booker’s first signature, and it breaks with almost everything a star player’s basketball shoe is usually expected to be. No aggressive shapes, no visible tech, no bright colors: Nike delivered a low shoe in soft nubuck that looks like it could just as well be worn with a suit. Booker asked for a shoe he’d also want to wear off the court, and that’s exactly what arrived.
The execution underlines that choice. The upper combines nubuck with a finely woven textile panel, the swoosh is in the same shade so it only stands out by texture, and on the heel sits a wide fabric loop with a perforated panel beside it. The midsole runs around the shoe in an off-white band, low and flat, without the inflated profile most basketball models carry.
That the shoe is nevertheless played at the highest level lies beneath the surface. The cushioning and support are hidden in the construction rather than the appearance, an approach Nike has tried with other signatures before but rarely pushed this far.
Within the range the Nike Kobe line is the model the low cut most resembles, while the Nike Air Zoom GT Cut shows how a modern play shoe does look technical.
