About Nike Air Max 2021
Nike Air Max 2021: the air chamber as a row of beads
Most visible Air units are a single continuous bubble. Not so with the Air Max 2021. Look at the heel and you see three round bubbles strung together and pinched between each bubble, like beads on a string. With bright colorways that shape immediately stands out, because the unit is often in a different color than the surrounding sole.
Above the sole there’s a second peculiarity. A semi-translucent panel overlays the upper, and the swoosh sits partly underneath it: you see it through the material rather than lying on top. The laces run through loose loops with colored clips, and there’s a large pull tab at the back.
The shoe is deliberately kept light. The upper is a woven mesh with a ripstop structure, without leather layers or stiff panels, so the overall character mainly comes from the sole.
Within the Air Max line the 2021 belongs to the branch that looks forward rather than back. The Air Max 2090 does the same with the 90’s shape, and the Air Max 270 focuses on maximum height under the heel. Those who prefer a classic year-model shoe can look at the Air Max 90 or the Air Max 97.
Note the titles on this page. Versions marked GS are children’s sizes, not smaller men’s sizes; the construction is the same but the sizing runs differently.
