About Adidas Pureboost
Adidas Pureboost: Boost without the structure around it
When adidas introduced Boost foam in 2013, a question followed immediately: how much shoe should there actually be around it? The UltraBOOST answered with a cage, a heel frame and a thick layer. The Pureboost went the other way and removed almost everything. What remains is a knitted upper that fits like a sock around the foot and beneath it a block of white foam that you can plainly see.
That stripping away is visible everywhere. The laces run through fabric loops instead of eyelets or a plastic cage, the three stripes lie as separate flat bands on the knit, and the heel area is a soft upright collar instead of a hard frame. The Boost sole shows its pebble texture uncovered, with only a thin layer of rubber on the contact points. As little as possible between you and the foam, that’s the whole idea.
You can tell the generations by the name. Pureboost 22 is the recent edition, Go was the city version with a wider profile for unpredictable terrain, and standalone years like 2017 mark the older runs. Names with Busenitz belong to adidas’s skate branch and have a different construction; they give themselves away immediately by the flat sole.
Within the Boost family on this site, the Pureboost thus has its own place. The UltraBOOST is the maximalist, the NMD gave the same foam a lifestyle treatment with blocks in the sole, and the Supernova is the daily trainer. The Pureboost is the purest of the lot, and that name is no coincidence. The less there is around it, the more honestly the foam has to do its work.
