The Country dates from 1971 and is one of the few adidas models made for the woods. It was a terrain runner for cross-country, the discipline in which running takes place over unpaved terrain, and the construction is fully adapted to that: a sturdy sole with a studded tread, a high-rising rubber rand around the toe and an upper that can withstand mud and twigs.
The details show that origin. The upper combines leather with suede overlays in the areas that experience the most wear, with the three stripes as wide bands over them. The model name is printed in a small block on the heel, and the sole runs into a thick rubber band that rises all the way over the toe at the front, so the toe stays protected when pushing off on rough ground.
The model disappeared from view for decades and returned in the wave of reissues that turned 1970s terrain runners back into street shoes. In the selection on this page collaborations also appear with the Japanese label Human Made, which released the silhouette in its own colorways.
