James Arizumi and the Nike SB Zoom Janoski
James Arizumi is associated within Nike with the SB Zoom Stefan Janoski, the signature shoe of skateboarder Stefan Janoski. The Janoski has a noticeably flat build for a skate shoe. There is no thick midsole and the toe is kept low so the skater can feel where the edge of the board is. The cushioning is in an air pocket under the heel rather than in the thickness of the sole. The upper is usually suede, with a reinforced panel where the board’s grip tape wears through fastest.
The differences between versions are therefore mainly in color and material. Besides suede, canvas and leather are used, and there are collaborations with skate shops that appear in small runs. Those are generally available for a shorter time and in fewer sizes than the standard colorways, which run year-round.
