James Carnes: models and current offerings
James Carnes is linked at adidas to a small range of 1990s basketball models: the Crazy 8 and the Crazy 97. Together they account for several dozen variations in our selection, making this one of the smaller pages. What you'll find here
Both models come from an era when a basketball shoe closed high around the ankle and tended to be heavy. The upper is leather with a padded collar, the sole is thick and rises up the side to keep the foot in place. The Crazy 97 added a visible spring element in the heel, which at the time was the line's distinguishing feature and is immediately noticeable on the side.
What is sold now are reissues: the same shape, with colorways that either reference the original or differ from it. The selection is limited and therefore changes more than current models: a version that's in your size today may be gone from the same shop next week.
