A first signature is not a new colour dropped onto an old silhouette. It is a shoe built from the floor up around one player, her name on the heel and her story in the detailing. The Nike Caitlin 1 is that moment for Caitlin Clark, and “Midnight Fever” is the colourway Nike chose to send the debut out into the street. Subtle it is not.
Do not let the name trick you. “Midnight Fever” sounds dark and late, but on foot this pair is pink from toe to heel. The dot-textured upper runs from a loud Hot Punch into a softer bubblegum tone, the Swoosh sits in layers with a dark core, and even the tooling carries the pink down into the midsole. A small blue logo on the tongue is just about the only thing that interrupts the wave.
Where “Midnight Fever” comes from
The name points to Clark’s twenty-second WNBA game, the night she became the first rookie ever to post a triple-double. Nike hangs the idea of a limitless ceiling on that. Call it marketing if you like, but it is at least a colourway with a reason behind it, and on a debut model that beats a random palette.
Under the pink it is a modern low-cut hoop shoe: a dense, dotted upper and a stacked midfoot for support. This is the Nike Caitlin 1 at its loudest, and that is exactly why it is the pair people will remember first.
Euros for now, nothing in pounds or dollars yet
The broad release lands on 14 October, through Nike and the big sports retailers, with a US price sitting around 140 dollars. On Solezilla.com the early listings are all in euros so far. Nike itself has it at 139.99 euros, and that is your retail anchor. Above it, Geturbrick is already up at 240 euros, a resale figure on a shoe this fresh, so read that gap as exactly that. There is no UK or US listing on this pair yet, so if you are shopping in pounds or dollars, add shipping and import before any euro number starts to look tempting. You can watch the shops and sizes fill out on the Caitlin 1 page.
The Hypescore is still INERT on our meter, which fits: the resale market has no history to read on a shoe that has only just launched. The energy here is all pre-release, and that is where Grail or Bail comes in. A giant step for women’s hoops, or just a whole lot of pink? Tell us below, and see where the rest of Nike is charging up.
