Pokémon turned thirty and adidas built a whole collection around it. The one I care about is the Samba OG “Mewtwo”: lilac, pearl, and just enough detail to get it without turning into a costume. It dropped on 22 September, and the good news is you didn’t miss much by waiting.
The upper is light purple leather with a pearlescent sheen over it — depending on the light it slides from almost white to soft lilac. The three stripes are the same tone, so the shape does the work, not the contrast. The midsole and outsole are a much louder violet, and that’s the only place this pair really gets loud. On the heel there’s a gradient from violet down to near-black purple, with a lilac ribbed rim above it. “MEWTWO” is printed small on the side, and that’s it. No print of the creature, no eyes on the toe. Clean purple Samba if you don’t know, Easter egg if you do. That’s exactly why this one works and most character sneakers don’t.
How to wear it, and the rest of the drop
Official colourway name: Ice Lavender / Ice Lavender / Violet. Fit-wise this is a normal Samba OG — low, narrow, flat. Throw it under baggy jeans or cargos and let that violet sole do the talking while everything else stays lowkey. I wouldn’t put it under anything busier; the sheen is already plenty. Mewtwo also gets a ZX 8000 and a Spezial in the collection, and there are Pikachu Superstars, a Gengar and a Rayquaza in there too — but the Samba is the one most people reach for.
What it costs now
This was a broad release, no raffle, and it shows in the prices. On Solezilla.com there are nineteen active listings from sixteen shops, and a big chunk of them are regular retailers still sitting right at retail: Supremestars, Schrittmacher, Foot District, Footshop, Size? and BSTN all hover around €129–€130 in euros. The floor is Offspring at €117; the ceiling is Farfetch near €225, which is consignment territory. For pounds, BSTN UK lists it at about £118 and Solestop at £140; in dollars, Shoe Palace at $110 and Stadium Goods US at $128 — and that $110 lines up with the US retail. So nobody’s paying a premium here unless they want a specific size.
The Hypescore reads 42, which is CHARGING — real interest, not a frenzy, which matches a drop you can still buy at retail two weeks later. Line up the shops by size and price on the Samba “Mewtwo” (KI8220) page, check out the rest on the adidas Samba page, and see what else adidas dropped this run.
