Some sneakers demand attention through color. This one does the opposite. The New Balance 9060 “Washed Blue” (U9060IB) stays within a single color family, and that’s exactly why I keep looking at it. The question I ask myself with every pair: would I actually wear it?
What you notice up close
The upper is made up of layers that all come in the same blue-gray shade, but in different materials. The largest sections are rough, almost shaggy suede, giving the side of the shoe a soft, slightly woolly appearance. Underneath, there’s mesh in a somewhat deeper blue, just enough to keep the shoe from looking flat. The smooth overlays around the toe and heel catch the light differently from the suede, so even within a single color, there’s still plenty of contrast.
The N logo is tonal with a white outline, and together with the white stitching around the panels, that’s about the only real accent. The midsole continues in the same shade: a sculpted, wavy shape that carries all the way into the outsole. Blue from the upper right down to the sole.
Would I wear it?
Yes, but deliberately. This isn’t a color that behaves like gray or black, even though it comes close to both. Put it next to a pair of jeans and you suddenly have two shades of blue facing each other, which rarely looks subtle. Black, ecru, or olive let the colorway stand out more effectively.
It’s also a substantial shoe. The midsole is tall and wide, and that shows in the proportions: pair it with slim trousers and the look can quickly become bottom-heavy. Good to know before you order. And because a large part of the upper is made from rough suede, this isn’t the pair you’ll want to take out in the rain without a second thought.
Hype, availability, and price
On Solezilla, this colorway has a Hypescore of 84, placing it in the ATOMIC range. So it’s carrying plenty of heat, even though this isn’t a loud release. The picture is just as clear in Grail or Bail: the votes lean overwhelmingly toward Grail. That lines up with what the New Balance 9060 has been doing as a model for some time now — its more understated colorways have surprisingly long staying power.
The retail price was around €150. At the time of writing, it’s available from ten shops in our selection, with the lowest active listing coming in below that, at around €134. The most expensive shop in that same group is asking nearly €235 for exactly the same shoe. That’s almost twice as much, and it’s the main reason not to check out with the first shop you find.
One more practical note: not every retailer calls this colorway the same thing. You may also see it listed as “Vintage Indigo”. The stylecode U9060IB is what matters, so you can always use that to identify it if the naming gets confusing.

A 9060 in a color that looks understated, but is still very much a deliberate choice. If you’re looking for something that won’t immediately be recognized as “the blue shoe” and you’re ready to move beyond gray sneakers, this is a strong option.
